DAY 09 - Wet Wet Wet

Good evening and welcome to Day 9's Blog.

Those that have been following our trails know that today was going to be devoted to travelling between San Antonio, Texas and Houston, also Texas.

The distance between the Comfort Suites in downtown San Antonio and the Marriott Spring Hills Suites in Houston is exactly 200.1 miles / 322 km. Interestingly, when we were planning this trip we were envisioning stopping by in small towns along the way or pulling over the side of the road to photograph something funky; however, it seems that all of the major towns are joined by major freeways that ensure a smooth, efficient, but somewhat boring drive. Don't get me wrong, I am really enjoying the driving and we can see some nice scenery along the way, it's just that driving along a nicely manicured freeway doesn't instil a sense of adventure.

With that said, there was some level of excitement on this drive caused by the return of our good friend, the rain. What is it about us driving and driving rain? Today the rain was so heavy that we were having difficulty looking outside the front windscreen and had to slow down from our usual 75-80 miles per hour (that's around 130 kph) to about 35-40 miles per hour.

Along the way we stopped at Arby's for lunch and stopped at the Houston Premium Outlet Mall in Cypress (it was on our travelling route about 30 miles East of downtown Houston), and I picked up a pair of shoes...unbelievable huh?

We finally arrived at the Hotel at around 1600h and emptied the car into the room. The Hotel is situated very close to the Toyota Centre (Basketball) where we will be watching the Houston Rockets take on the Atlanta Hawks tomorrow evening; and the NRG Stadium (NFL) where we will be watch Houston Texans against the Baltimore Ravens the day after.

We then headed to another Record Store, Cactus Records where Schuyler picked up a few bargains including signed copies of the self-titled Album and CD; 'The 1975' and I picked up a T-Shirt. We followed this with a very brief visit to the Galleria Shopping Mall in downtown Houston before dinner and turning in early ready for a busy and hopefully much more exciting day tomorrow, where I will tick off yet another childhood dream.

Well that's all for today. Not too much to report as it was predominantly a transit day.
